Castelfranco Veneto is a beautiful walled city that we always recommend Villa Cornér’s guests to visit due to its proximity and its historic and cultural relevance in Veneto’s history.

It was built in the last decade of the 12th century by Municipality of Treviso for military purposes. Its name, Castel Franco, comes from the fact that its citizens were exempted from paying taxes because of their loyalty to Treviso.

The birthplace of Giorgione

Castelfranco Veneto is universally known because it was the birthplace of one of the most important and controversial figures in the history of painting: Giorgione. The fortified city, almost as if it were a treasure chest, contains two precious works attributed to the painter: the mysterious Fregio di Casa Marta-Pellizzari and the famous Pala del Duomo di San Liberale. It must be said that the whole city is permeated by the memory of this great artist thanks to the museum and the square dedicated to him and to the many buildings intertwined with his life.
